A lot of people in our congregation did it, we even had phone territories. It was a line I never crossed, because I know how much I hate it when I get calls like that. However, I really hate people who come to my door too, so I have no idea why I was willing to do that for three decades! NMKA

How did you personally endure the torture during the DC?
by whatistruth inmy assembly was a couple of weeks ago and lets just say the only way i could possibly get through that b.s was by having some "funny stuff" before the sessions, then to my car at lunch.
pretty much slept the days away.
my wife would constintaly ask me what was wrong with me, i said i was feeling really sick.

I have not attended in 3 years, the ability to text really helped the last one I attended. When I had little ones that made it bearable, walking around with them or leaving if they got "sick". When I was in college it helped to keep a few study cards and use that time to wrap my mind around big concepts or things I had to memorize. Now I guess I would just die if I had to go! NMKA

Loving your beutiful children
by jambon1 ini had little or no problems with my beliefs as an 18 year old convert to the jehovah's witness religion.
fair enough, there were a few things that i found a bit wacky & odd, but i was on the road to life.
i couldn't give a rats arse about many things.

Jambon, you said that perfectly. I certainly didn't want to be a bitter old lady who had no contact with their children due to the minor infraction of a teenager. We have all seen these folks at the kingdom hall, older with no family because of ridiculous rules, life is just passing them by. So sad. You sound like such a great dad for realizing this ahead of time for you family. Thanks for sharing, NMKA

Hi Snowbird, yes I have done it. I was younger early 20's and I found it really difficult. You are still kind of messed up on your day off. I have a friend that does it now and she is a zombie half of the time. Especially for older women, I don't think it is a good idea, there are many studies on nurses that show an increase of breast cancer and other illness for those that work nights. Although my experience has been 11p-730a, getting home at 430a or so would make sleeping a little easier. I still offer to work nights once in a while as favor, once in a while is fun, but not as a regular schedule. NMKA

Saddening and Inspiring...
by IronHill inok, so we received our new copy of crisis of conscience (since my previous copy was lent out and never returned) and me and the wifey have been reading it together for the past couple nights.
i have read the book before, and know the shock felt when you read about certain things in the organization.
she admits to having lingering thoughts and feelings of guilt for leaving perhaps the only true religion.

Unpleasant as it is, you do have to go through those emotions and you come out the other side feeling liberated. Thanks for sharing. NMKA

Most Ridiculous Thing You've Ever Been Counseled On
by MrFreeze ini'm sure topics like this have already come up but they tend to get hilarious with the absolute absurdity that goes on in the kh.
i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.
i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

Way back when (late 70's, early 80's) when CoC came out there was a lot of warnings to not read apostate books and information. I was just a kid at the time and didn't pay much attention. I remember there were protesters outside of an assembly once and my mom covered my eyes as we walked by and told me to pray so I wouldn't hear what they were saying. Today, I think it's one of the main reasons they are so anti Internet. The advice in our local cong was don't have the Internet in your home. NMKA

Finally finding my way out...
by cognac inwell, its been about 2 1/2 years and have slowly done less and less.
i've been to about 30 minutes of a meeting in the last month and a half where i stayed out back and with my daughter.. i've been looking for the right timing to leave but had decided i will go anyways by the time my daughter is about 1 years old.
but, it just so happens that my some members of my family including and mostly my parents have actually given me a good enough of an excuse to get out.. they have broken to many rules.

Cognac, I too stayed for family for a long time. Your most important family member is that little baby, I wish I would have a chance to get my kids out younger. Funny how eventually JW family dissolves all reluctance and has you running for the door! Glad things are going well for you. NMKA

Field service reporting
by gutted inso one of the elders called asking for my time.
i lied, somewhat.
yes i did talk to people about the "truth" but not in favourable terms.. has anyone simply stated, "i have not been in service this month"?

It is the advantage of just quitting all of a sudden. They called for like 2 months asking for time and then it stopped, if you are not there for 8 weeks, you're probably not out in service! NMKA
